Precision clearance measuring system for shell bearings. Plastiguage is essential when assembling an engine to check clearances between crankshaft and main and big end bearings. This Plastiguage system measures clearances from 0.001-0.007" or in easier terms 1 to 7 thou of an inch. This is ideal for most crankshaft clearances which are typically just less than 0.001" for every inch of crankpin diameter. A strip of Plastiguage is placed across the relevant crankpin and the bearing assembled and torqued to the correct torque. The bearing is then disassembled and the width of the squeezed Plastiguage is measured against the supplied measuring scale and the clearance ascertained. Plastiguage is sold in envelopes containing 10 strips of Plastiguage, instructions and imperial/metric measuring scale and is a very useful product for ensuring correct clearances during engine assembly.
